Crime Tracker: Authorities React To Claims ‘They Aren’t Doing Enough’

Posted: Updated:

KHQ.COM - Some law enforcement agencies consider property theft the most prolific crime in the Inland Northwest. Many of you are frustrated with the criminals themselves and with local law enforcement.

Crime Tracker Kalae Chock received an email expressing that frustration from a viewer named Lynn who lives in the Valley. Lynn writes: "They don't even bothering doing anything... Why bother calling police when the don't even do their jobs?"

The email prompted the Crime Trackers to pay a visit to the Crime Analysis Department at the Public Safety Building in Spokane to see exactly how law enforcement investigates crime.

The Crime Analysis Unit says it's doing everything it can to fight crime. It adds that even if you don't see a physical police response, it is actively looking into every report that comes into its department.

Crime Analyst Tom Michaud encourages everyone to report anything they see that might be suspicious. He says by linking similarities between reports and connecting the dots, they're able to solve crime.

Michaud says "We value as much information coming in as possible. The more information, the more accurate our analysis can be, the more accurate our resources can be deployed." Still, the frustration remains.

However, law enforcement reminds citizens to do their part and help serve as their eyes and ears. This way, they say they can work toward the ultimate goal of keeping the community safe.
