Turbine Topples at Washington Wind Farm

Posted: Updated:

PENDLETON, OR - A wind turbine snapped its spine and fell to the ground last weekend at the Stateline Wind Farm near Touchet in Walla Walla County.

The toppled wind machine was found Sunday.

The turbines are built to withstand the 60 mph gusts and automatically shut down when winds reach 55 mph.

It was the first of 454 turbines at the wind farm to fall since they started spinning in 2001.
