PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CDA POLICE DEPT: Coeur ‘Alene Police arrested Thomas S. Heinbaugh on 11/07/13 for aggravated DUI and felony leaving the scene of an injury accident after he crashed his 1999 Ford F250 into a residence located at 421 E. Hattie Ave at 6:13pm.

Heinbaugh fled the scene of the accident on foot and was later located by officers in the area of Government Way and Anton Ave. He was taken to Kootenai Health for evaluation and was treated for minor injuries. He was arrested and transported to Kootenai County Public Safety Building.

When officers arrived on scene of the crash they saw the truck had crashed through the front of the house and came to rest completely inside the house. The front of the truck also knocked the back wall out of the house, and parts of the wall were suspended in air due to electrical wiring and some boards still partially intact.

An adult female victim  later identified as Sherri Bloom was lying on what appeared to be the floor of the house. She was trapped under what appeared to be part of the couch and a door. Bloom sustained serious bodily injuries and is currently listed in fair condition at Kootenai Health.

Officers observed an adult male victim later identified as Jeffrey Groat trapped underneath the back of the truck. He also sustained serious injuries and is currently listed in good condition at Kootenai Health.

A 10 year-old minor female was located sitting on the floor of the residence near the back of the truck. She also sustained serious injuries. Her name and condition is not available for release to the public due to her being a minor child. All three victims remain in the care of Kootenai Health at this time.

Coeur d'Alene Police Chief Ron Clark expressed his sympathy to the injured family "This is a very tragic and preventable accident. A family has been devastated from the result of a DUI. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, and I thank all of our emergency responders for their efforts at this awful scene."
