WSU TC Engineering Students Gain Practical Experience at Raceway

Posted: Updated:

WEST RICHLAND, Wash. - WSU Tri-Cities seniors take their years of book work into the real world.

24 mechanical engineering students and 14 electrical engineering students formed two teams. Over the last few months, they've designed and built remote-controlled go-karts with a $1,000 budget.

On Friday, they took those machines to the Tri-City Raceway to square off on the track.

"You learn a lot of book stuff but you never actually get to have a practical experience of this is how this would apply, how you would use this from book material. So it's nice to actually get hands-on experience we can learn from," said senior Eric Riel.

The go-kart teams competed in an obstacle course, a water gun range and a barrier crossing.

The Sand and Sage Sports Car Club helped sponsor the event.
