KENNEWICK, Wash. - With the holiday season nearly upon us, local businesses are reminding you to shop local.
An event staged on Clearwater Avenue on Friday night aimed to raise awareness of mom and pop stores in that area.
Anastacio's Gourmet Espresso and Food owner, Debbie Ross, decided to put the event together. She said she's noticed a decline in traffic on Clearwater Avenue and in turn, a decline in customers.
Ross wanted to do something to help other struggling businesses like hers.
"Where other people on Clearwater can come with their booth or their trailor just come themselves with a card. Just somehow to promote their business and not ask nothing of them so they can get their business promoted so we can help our small businesses," said Ross.
This wasn't the only effort to get shoppers into local stores. More than 40 businesses will set up at the Shop Kennewick showcase at the Southridge Sports and Events Complex on Saturday. Small Business Saturday is also the day after Black Friday.
