RICHLAND, WA. –A teacher at River's Edge High School has won this month's Classroom Makeover.

Nancy Galliher teaches language, fine arts, and science at the Independent Learning program. Galliher's students do a lot of their class work on line, so Galliher is trying to make her classroom look like a cyber café.  Recently she found a deal at Applebee's.

"I kind of got a tip they were selling furniture so my husband and I pooled some personal money and bought these tables and brought them into the classroom," Galliher says.

Spending her own money is nothing new for Galliher, who has been teaching for 20 years, the past five at the alternative school.

"All teachers put a lot of heart and soul and personal money into their classroom,' she says. "It's part of the job."

Galliher and two other teachers work with more than 100 students.

For her makeover, Galliher receives $250 from Kadlec Health Systems. She says she would like to add some artwork to the walls and maybe buy a coffee pot for the classroom/café.
