INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Nov. 13) -- The Central Washington University volleyball team remains in the hunt for a second consecutive post-season berth, and the Wildcats have improved their positioning slightly with their ascent to sixth in this week's NCAA Division II West Region poll.

CWU, 13-10 overall and 9-6 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, moved up one spot this week following a split of two away matches last weekend. The Wildcats were upset by Montana State University Billings last Thursday before sweeping then-number 10 regionally-ranked Seattle Pacific University on Saturday.

The Wildcats, who posted a five-match win streak in late October, have played against six nationally-ranked opponents so far in 2013. CWU split four non-league matches against nationally-ranked foes, earning wins over Cal State San Bernardino and Washburn (Kan.). CSUSB is ranked third once again this week in the NCAA Division II West Region poll.

This week's regional ranking, the second of three official regional polls to be released prior to the post-season tournament selections on Nov. 24, remains identical in the first four positions in the poll. UC San Diego, BYU-Hawaii, Cal State San Bernardino, and Sonoma State maintained their positions in the top four spots, while the highest-ranked of four GNAC schools in the top 10, Western Washington University, moved from sixth to fifth. CWU followed suit in climbing from seventh to sixth, followed in the poll by California Baptist University and Dixie State University. The University of Alaska Anchorage and Northwest Nazarene University, who join WWU and CWU as GNAC representatives in the regional poll, dropped to ninth and 10th, respectively, in this week's poll.

CWU is aiming for its fifth appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament in the past 10 years. The Wildcats made three straight trips to the NCAAs from 2004 through 2006 and then made a return to the tournament last season.

The top eight teams in the region, assuming conference champions from the GNAC, California Collegiate Athletic Association, and Pacific West Conference are among the top eight, will qualify for the regional tournament that will be held Dec. 5-7 at a site to be determined.

CWU plays its final away match of the regular season this Saturday (Nov. 16), visiting Northwest Nazarene. The Wildcats then host Saint Martin's University and Western Oregon University next Thursday (Nov. 21) and Saturday (Nov. 23), respectively.
