Sophomore Lia Galdeira scored 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds, as the Washington State University women's basketball team fell to Hawaii Rainbow Wahine (2-1), 66-77, at Stan Sheriff Center in the Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic Friday.

Galdeira’s 29 points led all scorers and marked her first 20-point performance of the season. Junior Tia Presley added 14 points and sophomore Mariah Cooks notched 11 points for the Cougars (1-2).

Hawaii led by as many as 15 points in the first half, but the Cougars finished the half on a 14-5 run to close the period down by six points at 26-32. The run continued when the Cougars returned from the locker room, as Galdeira and Presley combined for 11-straight points to give WSU a 36-34 lead.

Rainbow Wahine responded with a run of their own, scoring 12 unanswered points to take a 56-46 lead. The Cougars fought back, cutting Hawaii’s lead to four on two separate occasions, but Rainbow Wahine maintained the lead and closed the game with six-straight free throws.

Washington State finished the game shooting .359 (23-64) from the floor, with 28 points in the paint and seven steals.

The Cougars return to action Saturday as they face West Virginia at 2 p.m. PT.
