Fred Meyer Robbery in Yakima Prevented By Quick Thinking Employees

YAKIMA, WA. -- Police arrest a would-be robber after a little luck and some quick thinking.

Yakima officers tell us a man trying to throw police off his track called in a fake bomb threat. Then, he went into the Fred Meyer on 40th Avenue and demanded money after flashing a gun.

He ran away, but the Loss Prevention Team in the store had already called police who just happened to be in the area. After a quick chase, the man was caught and arrested. Fred Meyer employees say they have a close working relationship with police.

"I just want to commend the cooperation of the Police Department, ourselves and our management team and my Loss Prevention Team on how well it worked out," Mike Clemente of Fred Meyer said. "And thank god it worked out as well as it did."

No one was hurt during the robbery attempt. Police are still investigating to figure out whether the man had any accomplices.
