SEVERE WEATHER: Tornadoes Level Neighborhoods

WASHINGTON, Ill. (AP) - The mayor of Washington, Ill., estimates that up to 500 homes in his town were either damaged or destroyed by a wave of fierce storms that brought damaging winds and tornadoes to 12 states yesterday.
    
Mayor Gary Manier says, "Everybody's without power, but some people are without everything."
    
At least six people in Illinois were killed and dozens more injured.
    
Washington resident Curt Zehr says his wife and adult son scrambled into their basement when Zehr spotted a funnel cloud.
    
Zehr says moments later, the house was gone, but his family was uninjured.
    
Forecasters say Illinois was the hardest hit. The National Weather Service say up to 40 tornadoes may have hit the Midwest.

    SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Crime Stoppers of the Inland Northwest is now offering a reward to assist Spokane Valley Major Crimes Detectives locate and arrest 48-year-old Daniel L. Johnson.  Johnson is suspected of binding an adult female, assaulting her, and then shooting her. Johnson is currently wanted for Assault 1st Degree (DV) and Kidnapping 1st Degree (DV).

    KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho - The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office says a 41-year-old Osburn man tried to steal a car after crashing a car he was driving that was reported stolen out of Shoshone County last week.  The crash happened near Highway 3 and Rainy Hill on Friday. It was reported Justin Hurley Smith tried to steal another car after crashing the first.
