YAKIMA, WA -- 16-year-old Sergio Tinajero was killed near Spokane while hunting with his family on Saturday.

Many were shocked to learn about what happened to Sergio. Students at Eisenhower High School described him as a reserved kid who kept to himself. They say he would always wear headphones in his ears while in the halls and had a few close friends.

For people who knew Sergio, it was an emotional day at school.

"When I found out, I broke down and cried," Sergio's friend Nathen Hill said. "Because I just talked to him on Friday and now he's not even here."

"It just took me by shock because I've known him since I was in middle school," classmate Emma Kemf said.

Details are still emerging about exactly what  happened over the weekend. What we do know is Sergio was hunting with his family North of Spokane when he was accidentally shot.

Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene. We talked to the family on Sunday, they say they're quote hanging in there. No memorial is planned at this time.
