MOSCOW—The University of Idaho women’s basketball team added three players to its roster for the start of the 2014-15 season head coach Jon Newlee announced on Tuesday.

Bethany Krause (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville H.S.), Renae Mokrzycki (Melbourne, Australia/North Idaho JC) and Geraldine McCorkell (Melbourne, Australia/Penleigh & Essendon Grammar School) have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Vandals next season.

Krause, a 5-9 guard, was a 2013 first team All-Conference selection in the Greater Western Ohio Conference. She averaged 9.2 points per game in 28 games in her junior season. Krause shot 37.4 percent from the three-point line and scored in double digits 12 times in 2013, including a season high 23 points. She was first team GWOC Central Division and was selected to the Southwest Ohio District 15 All-Star Underclassman Team along with being a Pickerington North Classic All-Tournament Selection. Throughout the 2013 season Krause was honored locally as the WHIO News Center 7 Player of the Week and the Dayton Daily News Player of the Week.

“We like Bethany’s versatility,” Newlee said. “She will be able to play both guard positions for us. She is an excellent three-point shooter and passer. She sees the floor extremely well. She reminds me of Connie [Ballestero], in that she can play both the one and the two spot for us. She will be able to play with any of our guards and will be an excellent complement to our backcourt.”

McCorkell, a 6-1 post player, comes to Idaho as a member of the Victoria Junior team that won the gold medal in the 2013 Australian National Junior Championships. Representing her home state of Victoria, McCorkell recorded a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds) in the gold medal game. McCorkell was second on her team and fourth in the league in scoring, averaging 14.9 points per game as a member of Dandenong in Big V League play. She led the team in rebounding (10.3 per game) and was second in field goal percentage, shooting 52 percent last season for the Rangers. McCorkell was awarded the team’s MVP in 2013 and was a Big V All-Star selection. She was the league’s player of the month for June. McCorkell recorded eight double-doubles and scored in double figures in 19 of Danenong’s 20 games in 2013.

“I’m really excited to have Geraldine joining us,” Newlee exclaimed. “She is going to give us a toughness in the post. She is 6-1, strong and can finish with either hand. She can then step out and knock down jump shots from 15 feet out the three-point line. That is what we are looking for in our system from the post. She is going to be an excellent fit for us on the court and an excellent student.”

Mokrzycki, a 6-0 forward, averaged 5.5 points per game in 2013 at North Idaho Junior College. She snagged 179 total rebounds last season, averaging 5.8 per game. Prior to joining the Cardinals Mokrzycki was the MVP of the Big V league in Australia, leading the league in rebounds (12.6 per game) and points (15.0 per game) in 2012. She was an All-Star Center and Rookie of the Year.

“We liked Renae’s versatility as well,” Newlee commented. “She is able to play the three and the four spot. At six feet she is either a big guard or an undersized post player. She’s very strong, very physical. She is able to defend on the perimeter or down in the post. She does a great job of driving and getting to the rim with no fear. Her ability to play inside and out for us will be huge for our depth at both spots.”

“I think they are all winners,” Newlee stated. “As we continue to pour winners into this program we are seeing great results from them.”
