KHQ.COM - Spokane County deputies say they received a call Wednesday morning of a suicidal male. When deputies contacted the man identified as 29-year-old Brian Olson, Deputies discovered Olson was also the sole suspect in an arson case after a home burned in North Spokane near the intersection of Barnes and Whitehouse.

After deputies contacted Olson they say he led them on a high speed chase at speeds in upwards of 70 miles per hour. Deputies say they chased Olson for several blocks, and witnessed him driving in the wrong direction on Argonne.

Deputies say one of Olson's tires blew and he drove for several blocks on the rim of his wheel throwing sparks and eventually causing a fire and disabling his car. Deputies also performed several pit maneuvers to stop the car they say Olson was driving. Deputies took Olson in to custody. Olson faces several charges.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE:

On Wednesday, November 20th, 2013, Spokane County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a suicidal call near the area of 20000 N. Holcomb Rd. The complainant told Sheriff's dispatch that 29-year-old Brian Olson was at the residence threatening to kill himself and they knew he was wanted for Arson regarding a fire investigation this past Sunday at 403 W. Barnes Road.  Dispatch also confirmed Olson had a warrant for arrest for assault.

The complainant told dispatch that Olson left the residence in a 1999 Oldsmobile.  Deputy Michael Beckman located Olson near the area of Bruce and Peonne. Olson was traveling southbound on Bruce and when Deputy Beckman tried to stop his vehicle, Olson failed to stop, attempted to flee the scene and Deputy Beckman told dispatch he was in pursuit.

Olson fled westbound to the area of Market and Magnesium where Deputy Terry Liljenberg had spike strips on the road in an attempt to disable Olson's vehicle. Olson missed the spike strips and nearly ran into Deputy Linjenberg standing on the side of the road. Olson continued to flee through north Spokane County and ended up traveling eastbound towards Pasadena Elementary on Upriver Drive. Deputy Beckman terminated the pursuit prior to coming close to the grade school.

Other deputies responding to the scene located Olson traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of travel on Argonne through Millwood. Due to the extreme danger Olson was presenting to the community, the pursuit was re-engaged. After traveling southbound on Argonne, Olson turned east on Sinto and continued northbound on Mullan Road.  Prior to reaching Mission, Deputy Beckman performed the PIT maneuver disabling Olson's vehicle.

Olson ran from his vehicle and Deputy Beckman caught him within a short distance. The engine compartment on Olson's vehicle caught on fire and had to be extinguished by Valley Fire.

  • Olson was booked into jail on the felony charges of 2nd Degree Assault, Eluding and Arson as well as the Assault warrant.
