YVCC Celebrates Solar Panel Installation

YAKIMA, WA - It's the first project of its kind in Yakima County.           

More than 100 solar panels recently installed on top of Yakima Valley Community College's main building will expand renewable energy into Yakima.

YVCC said students and staff can watch a monitoring screen to see how much total energy has been produced. Staffers estimate the solar array will put out more than 35,000 kilowatt hours of energy every year.

"We always like to be on the cutting edge," said Jeff Wood, the Facility Operations Director for YVCC. "Our college is part of the community, and we like to be on the cutting edge of things that we do and this is another example of it."

The project cost more than $120,000, but thanks to a big grant from Pacific Power, nearly 80 percent of that cost was covered.
