SPOKANE, Wash. -

People across the area took the time to remember what they were doing and where they were 50 years ago when the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, was assassinated. On Friday KHQ Local News went across town and talked with everyone from the people at senior centers to those on the street about that historic day. One man said it was the first time that many people saw their parents cry.

Every Friday at Southside Senior Center a group of men and women gather to play poker and this week was no exception. One of the men in the group was serving in Japan at the time when he was told by the guy who was manning the gate that his President was killed. Ann Beyers worked in Moscow in 1963 and she said it took the staff by surprise and she was devastated for many days. Duane Munk worked in a hotel in San Francisco when he learned the news. He said that everyone in the hotel was emotional, many went home.

Everyone who was alive at the time has a different story and it's hard to find anyone who does not know where they were at that exact moment.
