KENNEWICK, WA - It takes a lot of people to find forever homes for foster children and on Friday, all of those people were celebrated at the Benton County Justice Center.

There was a lot of emotion inside courtroom B as dozens of families finalized months or even years-long efforts to legally become parents.

National Adoption Day was started to raise awareness of the more than 100,000 kids living in foster care nationwide. In the Tri-Cities, there are several hundred foster kids and about a quarter of them are ready for adoption.

The theme of the event was 'a home for every child.'

"We start off with the birth parents, with the social workers, guardians, the attorneys, the judges, the foster parents. All of these people who are involved in the adoption process. These are the people that we celebrate today because we like to believe this is a very unique opportunity that we have," said Benton County Superior Court Judge Swisher.

In the Tri-Cities, there are more than 40 foster kids up for adoption.
