Local Church Cooks Hundreds of Turkey Dinners for a Good Cause

YAKIMA, WA-- People in Yakima are now a little stuffed from a free Thanksgiving meal put on by The Cross Church.

Saturday, volunteers from the church and the community cooked about 800 of turkey dinners at Davis High School and gave them to people for free in Yakima.

The church said they do this every year because they want to help people who won't have a thanksgiving meal next week.

"We used to do Thanksgiving boxes, and get turkeys and all the stuff needed for people to make their own, but what we soon realized was is that there is a element that was missing, and that is those who can't prepare it and so that's when we started doing this," said Jeff White, Interim Pastor at the Cross Church.

People started showing up around 11:00 for their free meal.

The church also said this is the 10th year they have made the dinners because they want to show their thankfulness for the season and to give back to the community.
