SPOKANE, Wash. – With 24.6 seconds left in overtime, Mitch Holmberg slid the puck across center ice to Mike Aviani, who then found Jason Fram in front of the Tri-City goal to score the game-winner as the Spokane Chiefs edged the rival Americans 4-3 on Saturday night in front of 7,879 fans at the Spokane Arena.

The Chiefs had an opportunity to end the game in regulation when Holmberg had the puck on the right circle with 6 seconds left, but Tri-City goalie Eric Comrie made one of his many great saves on the night to force the extra period. Holmberg, the WHL’s point leader, added an assist and a goal to push his season total to 61.

The Americans jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period, but Carter Proft and Keanu Yamamoto put the Chiefs on the board before heading into the intermission down 3-2. Holmberg scored his goal with 11:51 remaining in regulation.

Comrie, considered the one of league’s best goalies, turned away the Chiefs all night, stopping 40 of 44 shots on goal. Spokane goalie Eric Williams, who gave up three goals in six shots in the first period, settled in and allowed just one goal on 21 shots for the remainder of the game.

The Spokane Chiefs will host the Portland Winterhawks this Friday, November 29th, for Fred Meyer Shop with the Chiefs Night. The game begins at 7:05 at the Spokane Arena.
