SUNNYSIDE, WA -- One school district in the Yakima Valley is standing apart from the rest. Sunnyside High School is seeing more students graduate than they have in years.

In 2007, the school district had a 41 percent graduation rate. They were losing almost half of the student body. But each year after has shown improvement and in 2013, the graduation rate was 85 percent.

So why this steady increase?

Ryan  Maxwell, the Principal of Sunnyside High School said staffers have been developing a better support system for students, making sure no kid is lost in the shuffle.

"When we have kids that struggle, we identify the issue and we find ways to help the kids versus shuffling them off to different schools," said Maxwell. "We keep them all here."

The principal said even at an 85 percent graduation rate they're still losing about 60 students. He said the school district won't be satisfied until they reach a 100 percent graduation rate, furthering the continued success of all their students.
