KENNEWICK, WA - Health officials say getting a flu shot is one of the best ways to avoid catching the virus this season.
Nurses from Trios Health in Kennewick were at our studios Tuesday morning, giving flu shots to our morning crew. They say it's important to get the vaccine because you could be a carrier of the virus, without having symptoms.
Last year, more than 150 kids died in Washington alone because of the flu.
"For you to build up complete antibodies to fight the flu virus, it takes at least two weeks . So, people do need to come in now and get protected before they're around a bunch of kids for the holiday season and the elderly, because they get really sick from the flu," said Liz Roberts, a nurse at Trios Health.
Some symptoms of the flu include coughing, high fevers and body aches. If you'd like a flu shot, Trios Health is offering them at their urgent care locations for $30 each.
