Yakima Council May Ban E-Cigarettes

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA - To a story that attracted a lot of comments on our Facebook page Tuesday. The City of Yakima is considering adding E-Cigarettes to the ban on smoking in public places.

Opponents said the battery-powered nicotine vaporizers are as bad as smoking tobacco. However, others said it's a much better alternative to regular cigarettes.

One woman said her son is using E-Cigs to wean himself off smoking.

"Because I was complaining at him for the smell, the mess, everything that goes along, the expense," said Janeen Bivins-Stewart. "And the E-Cigarettes, they're cheaper, there's no smell to them."

The possible risks and benefits of E-Cigarettes are still unknown, and they're not regulated by the FDA.

City staffers are preparing an ordinance for the City Council to consider.
