RICHLAND, WA - The American Red Cross is asking you to give more than thanks on Thursday.

Red Cross chapters in Richland and Yakima will hold blood drives on Thanksgiving day and Black Friday this week.

The Red Cross say there's a bigger need for blood during the holidays, because people tend to be busier and don't always have as much time to donate.

Directors say anyone who donates blood on Friday will get a t-shirt. Anyone who gives on Thanksgiving will get a t-shirt and a pumpkin pie (while supplies last of course).

But while giving blood takes just a few moments, that donation goes a long way.

"It's a great way to give back to the community, it's a great feeling of instant gratification when you give blood," said Linda Michael, the Blood Donation Recruiter for the Richland Red Cross. "Red blood cells go to one patient, the plasma goes to another and the platelets go to a third patient, so you'll be helping three people with your one donation."

The blood drives on Thursday run from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

On Friday, the drive in Yakima is from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM, and in Richland it's from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The Red Cross says it is always a good idea to make an appointment, just click here to go to http://www.redcrossblood.org/make-donation or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

The Richland Red Cross is located at 447 Wellsian Way. The Yakima Red Cross is located at 302 South 2nd Street.
