YAKIMA, WA - One local group is trying to help ease the pain of feeling homesick during the holidays for military servicemen and women.

The Women's Auxiliary Group in Yakima stuffed 100 makeshift stockings with candy, toiletries and other items to send to U.S. troops in Afghanistan. The volunteers hope these bags can bring a little cheer to the soldiers.

"A lot of joy to know that somebody here still thinks of them and all they're going through over there," Carrol Vetter, President of Auxiliary Group said. "(That we're) not just being our happy selves and enjoying our lives. Because they do go through a lot."

The stockings will be sent later this week and will reach the soldiers in time for Christmas.
