KENNEWICK, WA -- The public is fed up with Congress and NBC Right Now asked Representative Doc Hastings to give his constituents a direct answer about turning this constant stalemate around.
A recent poll found only 9% of the American people approve of Congress. That's an all-time low.
Hastings says he doesn't blame people for being upset with Congress. He says he's pressing his fellow members to reach a budget deal soon to avoid a possible default in January and another government shutdown.
"Deadlines have to be met. Hopefully, we can get an agreement this month so we don't come to that point. But I don't think the American people are in any mood for that and I'm certainly not," Rep. Doc Hastings said.
Hastings notes that the House has passed several budget bills, but the Senate has not acted on them. The constant clash isn't productive and a major concern for any type of progress.
Hastings says he hopes a budget deal will be reached in the next few weeks so people can enter 2014 without looming concerns about another shutdown fiasco.
