Police Give A Few Tips For Black Friday Shoppers

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA - As Black Friday shoppers prepare for the crazy night ahead, Yakima police said they are stretching their resources during the next 48 hours.

They said the biggest thing is to stay safe while shopping.

Police ask that you drive carefully on the roads and in parking lots and to be aware of your surroundings.

Police said car prowling and theft is the biggest issue during Black Friday, because people tend to forget about the items they've bought once they put them in the car.

"People buy several bags of Christmas gifts, take them and throw them in their car and off they go again. Take an extra second to think about that, you're presenting yourself with a problem," said Captain Rod Light.

To avoid this, police said you should put items in the trunk.  You can move your car to a different spot in case it is being watched, or go home and drop items off and come back if you need to do more shopping.   You can also put items on hold until you can pick them all up at the same time.
