Some Yakima City Officials Want Pit Bull Ban to Stay

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA - The City of Yakima's Code Administration Manager is asking city council members to keep the Pit Bull ban.

The city is currently considering whether or not to lift the ban and make Pit Bull owners abide by their dangerous dog regulations. But the codes manager said there's a critical difference between the two. The dangerous dog ordinance takes effect only after a person is bitten, and the codes manager said a Pit Bull bite could cause serious injuries or even death.

The department said it's in the best interest of the health and safety of the public to keep the 26-year-old ban in place.
