Congressman Doc Hastings Speaks Out on Deal to Ease Sanctions on Iran

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA - Fourth District Representative Doc Hastings tells NBC Right Now he doesn't support a recent diplomatic deal to ease sanctions on Iran.

The U.S. along with five other world powers agreed to give Iran some relief from sanctions in return for a pause in their nuclear enrichment program.

Hastings says the U.S. should tighten sanctions, not loosen them, "why would you leave those sanctions? Why wouldn't you come in an try to make a stronger deal rather than give them some relief? It appears to me that this six months time frame actually gives relief rather than tightening the screws. I think we should be tightening the screws more."

Hastings says the House passed a bill in July to put more sanctions on Iran, but the administration just isn't listening.

He says when the house goes back into session next week, they'll discuss the recent deal.
