SEATTLE (AP) - A new forecast has reduced the amount of expected snow in the mountain passes for Sunday.
    
Earlier models had shown the possibility of 12 to 18 inches of in the Cascade mountain passes as Sunday evening transitioned into night, prompting warnings from the National Weather Service for people driving home after the Thanksgiving weekend.
    
But meteorologist Josh Smith says the amount of snow will be only a few inches and not fall until Sunday night. He says that drivers should be wary of heavy rain, though.
    
The change in forecast for Sunday did not affect the expected snow on Monday. Smith says some of the lowlands in Western Washington could see a couple of inches snow Monday evening.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Thanksgiving travelers planning to drive on Northwest freeways Sunday night may want to consider returning earlier.
    
The National Weather Service in Portland says "weather is expected to rapidly deteriorate across the Pacific Northwest."  Forecasters predict heavy snow on Cascades highway passes in Oregon and Washington Sunday evening, with accumulating snow also possible in the Oregon Coast Range.
    
Forecasters expect very cold arctic air to follow, though details are uncertain. The weather service says there could be rain and snow at low elevations during the Monday evening commute in Portland, followed by even colder air that would likely bring the lowest temperatures since November 2010.

(AP) - The body of a 79-foot (24-meter) blue whale has washed ashore in California's Marin County and experts are trying to determine why it died.  The whale was discovered off Agate Beach in Bolinas on Thursday. Scientists from the Marine Mammal Center say it's a sub-adult female. They collected skin and blubber samples on Friday and plan a full necropsy Saturday.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports officers arrested a man Friday afternoon who ran from the train.  Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson says the assailant on the train was ranting on many topics, using "hate speech or biased language," and turned his focus on the women.
