Santa Drops by for Richland Tree Lighting Saturday

RICHLAND, WA. - The city of Richland this weekend kicks off the holiday season with its annual tree lighting ceremony at John Dam Plaza.

Mr. And Mrs. Claus are scheduled to park their sleigh at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Uptown Shopping Center on George Washington Way. The Claus' will be available for photographs and they're helpers will hand out candy canes and hot cocoa.

At 4 p.m., Santa and Mrs. Claus will jump into a more contemporary vehicle, an open convertible, and drive to John Dam Plaza for the annual tree lighting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. There will also be 400 luminaries lining the park.

There will be food vendors and music provided by the Mid-Columbia Mastersingers, Kennewick High Drumline, and the Mid-Columbia Trombone Ensemble.

The city recommends visitors to the plaza park in the Federal Building parking lot or the Richland Players Theater.

Afterwards, the public is invited to a free holiday variety show at the Richland Players Theater in the nearby parkway. The one-hour show begins at 5:30 p.m. and features performances from local talent:
