Local Businesses Open Doors For Small Business Saturday

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA-- A lot of people got most of their holiday shopping done duringFblack Friday, but Saturday was all about the small businesses.

Saturday was Small Business Saturday, which is a nationwide effort to get people to shop at small businesses rather than doing all their shopping at large chain stores like Target or Walmart.

Local businesses said supporting small shops helps keeps dollars local.

"In a town the size of Yakima, just kind of bringing it back home to the fact that there's a lot of small businesses owned by people who live here, their employees are paid and they spend their money here in town,"

American Express created small Business Saturday back in 2010, and they said this day is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

If you are an American Express cardholder, you can get $10.00 back when you spend $10.00 or more at any small businesses registered with American Express.
