KENNEWICK, WA-- Many people are going online to get their holiday shopping done, but police recommend using certified sites instead of community sites like Craigslist for deals.
Officers say they get reports of fraud from Craigslist shoppers and encourage people to research their purchases or even compare the ads to prices on other sites. And always avoid questionable methods of payment.
"Do not send any money orders. It even has a warning on there. But if you're going to do any Christmas shopping to get a good deal, obviously we don't want you to get taken advantage of so look into it. Sounds too good to be there it probably is," said Officer Rebecca Jones, Kennewick Police Department.
Jones says if you do buy items off of Craigslist, meet the seller in person in a public place.
And report any scams or concerns about stolen items being sold online.
