KENNEWICK, WA - Time is running out to sign your child up for the Toys for Tots program.
Volunteers were at the Benton PUD Auditorium in Kennewick Saturday registering families. So far, more than 1,400 families have signed up for the annual toy giveaway.
Marines in the Tri-Cities started collecting toys for this year's drive late last month. Last year, they gave away more than 16,000 toys to nearly 6,000 children in the lower Columbia Basin.
"We get to see the excitement in their faces when they sign-up. You ask them to give you an idea of what they want for Christmas and their faces just light up and that brings a lot of joy to the volunteers," said Tim Keith, a volunteer with the Toys for Tots program.
Volunteers will be back at the Benton PUD Auditorium Sunday, registering families from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. All you have to bring is a valid photo identification, your child's birth certificate and proof that you're in need of assistance.
