Community Unites For A Successful Food Drive

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA - It was a day of giving in the community. So many of you came out to join us for our NBC Right Now annual family food drive.

This time of year the community is in more of a need than ever. Saturday was a complete success and of course it was all thanks to our community support. Plenty of volunteers braved the cold with us in the morning. Coldwell Banker drove an entire truckload of food in. HAPO wrote a check for over $5,800. Servpro, fiesta foods and Meyers Auto Tech helped us fill truckloads of toys, coats and food for 2nd Harvest and the Salvation Army. We were amazed when Three Rivers Medicine drove up with 5 trucks of toys.

"We are so glad that we're going to be able to help more kids thanks to them. They brought toys and they really surprised is. They made this day brighter for us and for many kids too," said Major Julio Vasquez of the Salvation Army.

Our food collected at the event weighed in at 9,367 pounds. In total in just the Tri-Cities we raised nearly $18,000 in cash for 2nd Harvest.

"We use the cash donations to help us throughout the year to secure and distribute food out to where it's needed most," said Jean Tucker of 2nd Harvest.

The collections do not end. You can contribute to 2nd Harvest, Salvation Army and all our other charitable friends year round. At the food drive, the community really did make an impact for some very thankful people this holiday season.
