Men's Basketball Drops One Spot In Both Polls

SPOKANE, Wash. (December 9, 2013 – http://gozags.com) – Gonzaga University's men's basketball team fell one spot to 20th in the Associated Press Top 25 and also dropped one spot into a tie for 16th with Iowa State University in the USA Today rankings released Monday.

            The Bulldogs improved to 8-1 with an 80-68 home victory over New Mexico State University last Saturday, the only game of the week for the Bulldogs.

            Gonzaga plays its first true road game of the season Tuesday when the Bulldogs travel to Morgantown, W.V., to face West Virginia University. The Zags downed the Mountaineers 84-50 last season at the McCarthey Athletic Center and 77-54 in the 2012 NCAA Tournament Second Round game in Pittsburgh, Pa.

            The University of Arizona claimed the top spot in the polls for the first time since 2003 after previous No. 1 Michigan State University fell to the University of North Carolina last week. The Wildcats received 63 of 65 first-place votes in the AP voting of sportswriters and 30 of 32 first-place votes in the USA Today balloting of coaches.
