DJ Tripoli Named to Division III Academic All-America Team

SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth running back DJ Tripoli has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America ® Division III football team.


Tripoli, a senior, was named to the second team, based on voting by the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-America Committee.  He carried a 3.93 grade point average into the fall semester and is a kinesiology major from Burbank, California.


Tripoli led the Pirates in rushing and touchdowns scored this season.  He ran for 646 yards with an average of 3.9 yards per carry.  He rushed for seven touchdowns and caught another to tie for the team lead with eight total touchdowns.  He added 11 receptions for 124 yards and was second on the team with 770 all-purpose yards.  He was named Second Team All-Northwest Conference.


The NCAA Div. III Academic All-America teams are selected from players who had already been selected to the Academic All-District squad. The players are nominated and selected by members of CoSIDA. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and of sophomore standing.


Tripoli is the first Pirate player named to the Academic All-America football team since Emilio Sulpizio was a Division III Second Team honoree in 2011.
