Another setback for the proposed Manhattan Project National Park.
NBCRightNow.com - Another setback for the proposed Manhattan Project National Park.
Two house-passed amendments did not make the final text of the 2014 National Defense Authorization Act due to the Senate not supporting it. The defense bill was released late Tuesday night and must pass the House and Senate before it can be signed into law.
The amendments, written by 4th District Congressman Doc Hastings, would have established the park and created a small transfer of Hanford land no longer needed for cleanup back to the community for economic development.
Hastings issued a statement saying: "I'm disappointed, but not deterred. To all the advocates for this Park: you've given great energy, enthusiasm and expertise to this effort to date, and I know that will continue until our goal is accomplished, which I am confident it will ultimately be."
