YAKIMA, WA - For the 23rd straight year, Yakima Regional Hospital is helping families who have lost loved ones.

Wednesday's "Tree of Remembrance" ceremony is a way for people in the community to come together and reflect.

Hospital staff members said the holidays can be a sad time for some, especially if it's their first Christmas after a death in the family.

"This time of year can be very depressing for a lot of people, and it gives them a chance to come together and remember the good things," said Ladonna Chambard, the Director of Home Health and Hospice.

People read spiritual verses out loud and sang songs of hope during Wednesday's ceremony. The Christmas tree was decorated with lights and doves.

Organizers said 50 to 100 people attend the ceremony every year.
