TOPPENISH, WA - Local ranchers and Washington Beef employees handed out free packages of meat to over 300 families in Toppenish on Wednesday.

Agri Beef Company said food banks receive a lot of donations around this time of year, but they don't get a lot of high-quality protein.

Ranchers said that's where they can step in and help hungry families.

"When we put it together this is what we do, and we can make a difference, and we can help," said Jay Theiler, the Executive Director of Agri Beef Company. "We don't worry about where our next meal is coming from because we raise nutritious food. This is what we can do."

Wednesday's event is part of the Beef Counts program developed with Second Harvest.

Since it started three years ago, the program has contributed over $275,000 worth of beef to families in need.
