RICHLAND, WA - The first new construction project in almost two decades is underway along The Parkway in the historic part of downtown Richland, and it could be one of the last.

There's just not much space left to build on.

The last new building in The Parkway was Casa Mia and that was 18 years ago at the south end.

Now, a local couple is starting from the ground up with a new 1,680 square foot space on the north end. Just the foundation is finished right now but they're hoping to have the whole building complete early next year.

It could be a coffee shop, a retail store, even a restaurant. The owners picked The Parkway because of it's urban feel, pedestrian friendliness and close proximity to other thriving businesses.

"Richland's urban core is expanding. Although, there's the urban sprawl that's occurring, people still like to go downtown and be able to walk to restaurants and different retail spaces and have more of a larger city feel," said co-owner Jeremy Debban.

The next phase of construction is putting up walls and the owners are in talks with potential tenants. They have had everything from a distillery and wineries talk to them and they are still open to new ideas.
