Two adults and a 2-month old child received minor injuries after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 97 north of Klamath Falls ended with their vehicle coming to rest mostly submerged in an irrigation canal with the other vehicle on top of it. An Oregon State Police (OSP) investigation led to the other driver being issued a citation related to the traffic crash.

According to Recruit Trooper Thomas Andreazzi, On December 11, 2013 at approximately 1:06 p.m., a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by HOWARD KINGMAN, age 70, from Sisters, Oregon, was northbound on Highway 97 near milepost 264 when it attempted to pass a Toyota Prius occupied by two adults and their infant child. While attempting to pass, KINGMAN lost control on the icy roadway and crashed into the Toyota Prius. Both vehicles slid off the highway and down an embankment where they came to rest in an irrigation canal with the Chevrolet Tahoe on top of the Toyota Prius. Both vehicles broke through the ice with most of the Toyota Prius submerged underwater.

KINGMAN was not injured. He was cited by OSP for Careless Driving.

The Toyota's driver, ROBERT BURTON, age 56, and passengers BREE BURTON, age 20, and her 2-month old son, were transported by ambulance to Sky Lakes Medical Center with minor injuries.

OSP troopers from the Klamath Falls Area Command office investigated. Troopers were assisted at the scene by local emergency responders and ODOT.
