RICHLAND, WA - NBC Right Now is tracking the potential for some dangerous driving conditions. Winter weather warnings have road crews preparing the streets to keep you safe.

Richland street crews take the current freezing rain and snow warnings very seriously. They already have sprayed de-icer on roads across the city days ago. De-icer trucks spray a chemical that creates a barrier on the roads to break up the ice and prevents it from sticking to the ground.
Crews first sprayed major arterials, hills, and areas near emergency services.

Administrators say most roads that would pose a risk in bad weather conditions are covered and they're monitoring them closely.

"It's important to the traveling public. It's important for us to get a jump on what is about to come," said Dave Pardini with Richland Street Maintenance.

Richland's five snow plow trucks are prepared to work. They can also be used to drop a combination of de-icer and road salt.

Other local cities say they also sprayed their streets last week in preparation for these winter weather advisories.
