Kennewick, WA - Lots of high school athletes merely give lip service to the idea of academics being important. But not Larry Dewitt. For this Kennewick lion, academics are a way of life.

‘I just schedule around everything else. That's more important. School is the most important thing. It's going to get me somewhere in life and sports are extra. I've always been taught that. My parents raised me that way and that's how I've been raised,' says Dewitt.

A two-sport athlete, you might not expect him to be a chemistry whiz. But he is.

‘I like chemistry. I'm a science guy. Kind of nerdy maybe, but I like chemistry, science, I like math,' says Dewitt.

And he's aiming high. After college he hopes to be a chemical engineer.

‘Kind of leaning towards engineering and since I like chemistry, combine the two, that or something with teaching maybe. I like working with people. The thing is, the teachers I've had, they taught well and I can relate to them,' says Dewitt.
