NEWPORT, Wash. (AP) - Authorities in Pend Oreille County are still trying to find out who killed a Yakima teen who was shot while hunting with family members in the northeast corner of Washington.

The sheriff's office said Thursday that all the firearms carried by the teen and members of the hunting party went through ballistics tests at a state crime laboratory and none matched the fatal bullet.

The 16-year-old, Sergio Tinajero, was separated from six relatives on Nov. 15 when he was shot in a wooded area about 13 miles west of Newport. His body was discovered by his father about 200 yards off a logging road.

Yakima Herald-Republic reports (http://bit.ly/18GvUUe ) all family members all cooperated with investigators.

Deputies swept the surrounding area but have no leads on who fired the shot.

MORE DETAILS:

PEND OREILLE COUNTY, Wash. - The Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Department released an update Thursday morning on their investigation into the death of a 16-year-old hunter from Yakima.

On November 15th, 16-year-old Sergio M. Tinajero of Yakima was found dead in the woods near 1800 Deer Valley Road. The Sheriff's Office says Tinajero was hunting with family members at the time, and an autopsy has confirmed that Tinajero died from a single gunshot wound. Detectives did recover the bullet and have sent it into the Washington State Crime Lab for ballistics testing.

Family members are telling detectives that Tinajero had become separated from the other members of the hunting party and failed to respond to attempted radio calls made to him. The hunting party began to look for Tinajero and found him about 2 hours later dead.

Detectives have canvassed the properties around where Tinajero was found, but so far have no investigative leads. Detectives say all members of the family are being extremely cooperative.

Anyone with any information that might be able to help detectives solve this case, is asked to call the Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Office at 509-447-3151.
