Oregon Health Exchange Giving People more Time to Enroll

Posted: Updated:

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Oregon health officials are making a series of changes to give some people more time to sign up for insurance through the state's health insurance exchange.
Cover Oregon announced late Friday that insurance companies have agreed to delay the deadline for people to select their plan. Officials now say they must receive plan selections by 5 p.m. on Dec. 27. The previous deadline was Sunday.
The Oregon Health Authority also says it will create a temporary insurance plan for people in a high-risk pool, who have been denied private insurance coverage due to pre-existing conditions such as cancer.  The high-risk pool dissolves at the end of the year.
Legislative leaders had worried that some of the sickest Oregonians would lost coverage because of a backlog of applications through the state insurance exchange.
