Man Accused of Driving While Intoxicated on Wrong Side of I-84

BOARDMAN, OR - A 50-year-old Irrigon man is booked in the Umatilla County Jail after the pickup truck he was driving on the wrong side of the Interstate collided with a tractor trailer.

According to Morrow County Sheriff's Deputies, Brent Lane Cooney was driving a white, flatbed pickup truck westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-84 just before 9:00 Monday night.  

According to callers, Cooney was driving the wrong way on the Intersate for at least 10-12 miles.

Deputies say the crash happened about 8 miles west of Boardman.  The driver of the tractor trailer, 57-year-old Richard C. Vaughn of Battle Ground, WA, was not hurt in the crash.  A passenger in the tractor trailer, 48-year-old Kimberly J. Vaughn of Battle Ground, WA, was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital with minor injuries and released.

Cooney was arrested for DUII, assault, reckless driving and multiple counts of reckless endangerment.
