Gift Card Donation for Domestic Violence Services Lasts All Year

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA - Domestic Violence Services of Benton and Franklin Counties says one generous donation is making an impact far past the holiday season.

A group of women, made up of business and community leaders, donated $1000 in gift cards, and more than $1100 in cash.

While the group has made a similar donation for the last few years, DVS says this is the biggest contribution yet.

Finance and Development Director Kelly Abken says DVS tries to give at least $25 to victims in emergencies, which will now be possible through next year thanks to the gift card donation.

"They are truly used in emergent situations where out agency doesn't have the funds to help. But it's such a necessity for our clients to be able to move forward, so they literally are life savers."

Domestic Violence Services provides shelter, legal services, and support for more than 1000 women, children and men in Benton and Franklin Counties.

While the gift cards will go a long way, Abken says DVS needs and accepts donations year round.
