Boat Sinks in Clover Island Marina in Kennewick

KENNEWICK, WA. - The Port of Kennewick continues to monitor a boat that sank in the Clover Island Marina over the weekend.

The Environmental Protection Agency reported the sunken 48 foot wooden boat Saturday morning during inspection.

The Port of Kennewick has containment booms at their building and they deployed them around the boat as a precaution, but they say the boat isn't currently leaking any oil or fuel.

"There is a possibility of contamination of the waterway. That's why those containment booms and especially why we're glad to have it on site because you can get the booms around a vessel and make sure that you're not having problems with potential contamination of the water," said Tana Bader Inglima, Port of Kennewick.

There are fuel spill hotline signs posted on the docks for people to call if anything like this does happen.

Bader Inglima says they probably won't know why the boat sank until they can remove the boat from the water.

The boat is privately owned and the owner is working with their insurance agent to determine how to remove the boat and when.
