PASCO, WA - Emergency responders say they asked 17 people to temporarily leave 7 homes about 1:00 just after a gas leak in East Pasco.

Crews demolishing a house on the 800 block of Myrtle Avenue just off A St. hit a natural gas line while digging up the foundation. Police and firefighters also blocked off streets in a block and a half radius.

I went out to see and all I could hear was the gas line going just shhhh and pretty soon next thing I know we were being evacuated," said nearby resident Elaine Keister.

Cascade Natural Gas workers capped the broken line about 2:30.

"Cascade Natural Gas brought in a hydraulic ram that crimps the steel line off, that's a temporary fix," said Batt. Chief Don Donais, Pasco Fire Department.

No one was hurt.
