YAKIMA, WA - A repeat sex offender who has completed a prison sentence for child molestation won't be going free.
A Yakima jury has decided that 38-year-old Jonathan Parsons should be held indefinitely at the Special Commitment Center on McNeil Island. His civil commitment will be reviewed each year.
Prosecutors from the state attorney general's office say Parsons is a sex predator who should be confined.
Parsons has previous convictions for child molestation. He just completed a 14-year prison sentence for his third sex crime involving a child. This one, involving a 13-year-old boy.
During the trial, his lawyer told jurors Parsons was abused as a child himself and was confused about his sexuality. He underwent treatment in prison.
When Parsons was 14 years old, he was convicted of child molestation involving an 11-year-old boy. He was later convicted of child rape involving a 14-year-old boy.
