If you've shopped at Target since Thanksgiving, your personal information could be at risk.
NBCRightNow.com - If you've shopped at Target since Thanksgiving, your personal information could be at risk.
The retail company says a security breach may have impacted 40 million customers who have used a credit or debit card at any of the 1800 Target stores nationwide between November 27th, which is black Friday, and Sunday, December 15th.
Online shoppers were not affected. Investigators say this is the largest retailer data breach since 2007.
Target says the issue is resolved, but it is working with law enforcement officials including the secret service and a forensics firm to investigate the breach and pursuit of the perpetrators.
The retailer says the data accessed by the thieves includes the customers' names, the credit or debit card numbers, the card's expiration date and its three digit security code.
Target is encouraging everyone who may have been impacted to monitor their checking and credit card accounts for any unusual activity, and if they see anything, report it immediately to their financial institutions.
